Speculative positions for tin have surged to 1,116 contracts net long, reaching a peak not seen since the initial speculative support over the mining suspension in Myanmar last July. Despite a recent tax policy change in Wa state, the tin mines of the Man Maw mining area remain closed. Indonesian exports are now significantly delayed with still no trading activity on either the ICDX or JFX since the turn of the year. Our latest Tin in the News market update from ITA Market Intelligence: “LME tin price continues to surge, climbing above $28,000 to reach the highest price point in a year. Speculative interest has also lengthened to just over 2,000 contracts net long reflecting the extent of current supply challenges. After a two-month absence of exchange trading in Indonesia, trading resumed on the JFX from March 5th although there is still no activity on the ICDX. There has been some progress on RKAB and license renewals, but it is still expected to take some time for Indonesian exports to return to typical volumes. 📊 Up to 17.7 million tonnes* of various goods were transported by railway in Poland in December 2023 (down 11% month-on-month and down 6% year-on-year).
