- Indian citizen applying via express entry to get a PR.- Primary reason for the move: To ensure aging parents get to stay with us (initially on the parent super visa which allows visits of 2 years over the 6 month limitation here in the US, and eventually having them move over to PR as and when we become citizens)- TC: ~255k USD- Planning the shift in 2022Q1: How do I maximize the potential in this move?Q2: Do(s) and Don’t(s) financially, personally, professionally until 2022?#expressentry#vancouver#bayarea #canada#tech

I did a move from Seattle to Vancouver in 2019. I took a pay cut for now, but then I explored the option of some remote US companies. I am interviewing currently at a few and their compensation is more in line with your expectations. Local companies(Amazon included) would give you less than half your salary(after currency conversion). My advice: get into a remote company before you move to make a clean transition

I'm expecting to have an offer in the next few weeks, so I can let you know when I get that information. But I think it'd depend company to company. Some support global employees and other specifically Canada & US. So if they specifically list Canadians then I'd think they'd have Canadian payroll? But tbh I'm not sure

Just wanted to let you know you don’t have to become a Canadian citizen to get your parents the Canadian PR cards. Once you become a PR, you can apply for your parents too.

Unless you are of Indian origin, getting parents to immigrate is much easier in US

What’s the typical processing time end-to-end for Canada PR?

It really depends on how you execute it. It took us a long time because we did everything serially. Book for English proficiency exam, fill in forms for police clearance certificates and request for educational assessment at the same time. Then it takes a couple of days to fill out the profile. If you have enough points your application will be selected, otherwise it will go the next draw. This is the first half of application. After it is selected they will ask you to do medical test, you have to pay out of pocket for it and that is valid for an year. You will also be asked to go for biometrics. Once you complete these two tasks they will approve or reject your application in. 2-8 months. Then you will get your PR.So overall it can take up to a year or 2 to get PR.

@amz126 did you find a job in Canada and moved there before applying for PR. I am looking for similar path where I imagine my family and parents to settle in Canada. Right now, both me and my wife are in USA on h1b visa (and parents in India).

You need 3 years of tax returns before you can consider filing PR for parents. The program for parents fluctuates every year - sometimes it’s lottery based, sometimes it’s first come first serve. Even if you get them here, you’ll need to find an insurance provider to take on their coverage.

But after 3 years of continuous PR one can apply for citizenship and then getting parents on PR is the next step. I thought this is how it works.

Yes. 3 years of PR will help you get 3 years of tax returns to apply for parents.

The draws that happened in Feb/March had a cutoff of 470/471 (these were the last FSW draws that happened). Did you not get an invite then?In any case, the next draw when they open it for FSW will have a high cutoff as the queue has been building up for 3+ months.

I recently moved to Toronto from the Bay Area and my advice would be to find an employer with whom you can continue to work remotely after your move. I made sure my american employer was ok with my move and was willing to keep me as a remote employee after the move. The reason why I wanted to keep my Bay Area job when I moved is to aid a smooth transition and have some negotiating power when I interviewed for companies here. Companies here have upped their TCs quite considerably over the last few years so that’s definitely encouraging. It is still lower than Bay Area salaries but so is the COL. So adjust your expectations and instead of looking at raw numbers look at whether whatever TC you get here would allow you to maintain your current lifestyle and savings potential.

RSUs help a lot while moving to Canada. You don't lose your RSUs..so that value comes with you.
