Exotic class items are a new type of armor that players can earn in Destiny 2: The Final Shape. Instead of presenting unique perks like other Exotics do, these class items provide players with two perks from a curated pool of existing Exotic items, further enhancing build crafting potential.

Like all the best loot in Destiny 2, players will need to spend a bit of time if they want to get a perfectly rolled Exotic class item. Here's everything we know about these so far, including what they provide and how to get them.

As of writing, Exotic class items are currently unobtainable. However, Bungie stated in their early May blog post that these items will be given out as rewards for an activity that's due to unlock on the second week of The Final Shape. The developers didn't say anything else about exotic class items apart from the fact that they're going to be farmable and that their associated activity will always drop them. These do not drop from the Excision mission.

Each Exotic class item has a specific pool of perks for each class, and they usually contain perks from the Exotic armor pieces of other classes. If you've ever wanted to use a Destiny 2 Hunter build with Caliban's Hand and Synthoceps, now's your chance. Here are the known Exotic perks available for each class item:

SPIRIT OF OSMIOMANCY

Your grenades recharge quicker when they hit targets. The Seekers spawned from Coldsnap grenades travel further.

SPIRIT OF THE SWARM

Threadlings spawn when Tangles are destroyed.

SPIRIT OF APOTHEOSIS

Gain greatly increased melee and grenade regeneration for a short duration after your Super ends.

SPIRIT OF THE CLAW

Gain an extra melee charge.

The perks on Exotic class items are slightly watered down compared to the actual Exotics. Spirit of Synthoceps, for example, does not include the extra weapon-handling stats from Synthoceps itself. Despite this, players can get absurdly powerful combinations from their Exotic class items, provided they're lucky enough.

Despite Destiny 2's story ending on the Excision mission, Bungie still has plenty in store for the franchise. Players are about to experience the first episode of the game directly following the end of the Light and Dark saga, and once that goes live on the second week of The Final Shape, players should be able to start farming their Exotic class items as well.
