The Aircraft Assembly Technician 1 program is taking off this Summer Semester on the Coffee Campus! The Aviation Maintenance Technology Program Coordinator is Scotty Phillips. He brings more than 30 years of experience. This program is a technical certificate of credit and can be completed in two semesters. This program started at the college in January 2024 and opened to Dual Enrollment students.The Technical Certificate of Credit includes learning how to inspect aircraft structural and sheet metal repair. With this certificate, successful graduates can find jobs at Gulf Stream, Delta, and many aircraft companies. With the forecasted aircraft mechanic shortage, I believe we should act now to strengthen our resources, invest in our staff, and begin to grow our next generation of helicopter mechanics and avionics technicians. In my career, I have been fortunate to have attended many factory schools and have had some of the best mentors to work with and train me. My onboard story from my cadet ship! 🚢 One fine day I was writing my log book as our everyday routine as well as taking round and when I reached near main engine turbocharger it came to my notice that our U Tube Manometer is not functioning as the water inside the tube has evaporated already and the indicator balls have stuck at some level showing wrong reading.So I wrote the same reading in my log book not bothering to even inform my Chief Engineer that it is not working. Later that day while he was going through the main engine parameters he called me and asked why is this manometer reading showing same reading when the engine is stopped and when the engine is running?? He took me to the main engine turbocharger and came to know that I have faked the manometer reading. He was very furious that I had faked the reading, and he scolded me for my actions. Asked me why did I not inform anyone that manometer is not working?? I was not able to reply him.I learned a valuable lesson that day. I learned that it is important to be honest, even when it is difficult. I also learned that faking a reading can have serious consequences. If the Chief Engineer had not caught me, the faulty reading could have led to a serious accident.The moral of the story is that honesty is always the best policy. It is important to be truthful, even when it is difficult. Faking a reading is never a good idea, and it can have serious consequences.Do not fake readings just because instruments are not working but try to repair them and make sure they remain operational and learn how to get things sorted.Here are some lessons that can be learned from this story:1) Always be honest, even when it is difficult.2) Do not fake readings, as it can have serious consequences.3) Take responsibility for your actions.4) Learn from your mistakes and do not repeat them.5) Be honest with your supervisors and colleagues.6) Build trust with others by being honest and reliable.I hope this story helps you to be more honest in your work and in your life. 👍

There are many licensed aircraft Maintenance Engineers without jobs due company requirements of experience and type rating. Where will freshers get the required experience and even the money for type rating? Freshers should be employed by companies as trainee engineers, then the shortage will end
